Getting to Nosara
|
Costa Rica has two main international airports, San Jose (SJO) and Liberia (LIR). If flying into Liberia, we recommend a ground shuttle to the Costa Rica Yoga Spa (2.5hrs). If flying into San Jose, we recommend a transfer by air to Nosara. Airport Transfers: We recommend Terratour Nosara for shuttle service from Liberia and San Jose Airports for their reliability, professionalism, and proven experience. • If you are flying into Liberia, CR Terratour is $45 for the shared shuttle each way and leaves Liberia at 2:30pm and 4:30pm www.terratournosara.com. Private shuttles for up to 5 people are $139. • Terratour Nosara also has shuttles returning to the Liberia Airport daily at 8:00am and 9:30am It is always best to confirm your pick-up/drop-off times with shuttle companies directly as they may vary! • If you fly into San Jose, we recommend Sansa for a quick and scenic flight to Nosara, for more information, go to: http://www.flysansa.com/en/home. There is also a bus that runs from San Jose to Nosara daily, leaving the city at 5:30am, and arriving in Nosara at 12:00pm (Alfaro Bus, $10). If you want a private shuttle from San Jose, they start at $240 each way, and take about 6 hours, please contact CR Terratour at the link above. Rental Cars: We recommend National Rent A Car, which has an office in Nosara, but all of the big five rental companies are in Costa Rica. You can also rent Quads in Nosara by the day or week. |
Driving Directions from Liberia International Airport
|
From the Liberia airport (LIR) exit take a right on to the main highway. Drive about an hour keeping on the same road. You will pass through the towns of Filedelfia, Belen, and Santa Cruz. After Santa Cruz you will see signs for Nicoya. Take a right into Nicoya.
Once in Nicoya, continue straight down the main road until you are forced to make a right. Make your first left and continue right through the center of town. When it ends, make a left and then your next right (at its end). You'll stay on this road for nearly 30 kilometers. You will encounter several turns along the way, but just stay on the main road. If you are in doubt, look for signs pointing to either Nosara or Samara. Be aware for speed bumps and pot holes, pedestrians, bicycles, dogs and numerous other obstacles along the way - you'll need to pay attention. All of the bridges along this stretch of highway are wide enough for only one vehicle at a time. There will be a Ceda (Yield) sign on one side of every bridge. If you have a Ceda sign and there are cars coming the other direction, pull aside and let oncoming traffic through. After driving about 30 - 40 min you'll see a gas station on your left. Immediately after the gas station, the main road turns to the left and you'll see a sign for Nosara on your right. Slow WAY down and turn onto this road. From here you've got about 25km on a gravel road. The road is occasionally graded, so depending on its condition the drive should take between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours. During dry season, it can be very dusty. If you see locals walking or riding a horse along the way - slow down to avoid covering them in your dust. After about 10km, the road comes to a T intersection where you'll see signs for Nosara. Turn right and continue on your way. When you reach Playa Garza, you are at the beach! This is a beautiful spot, and a great place to take a rest if you need one. Otherwise, continue on over a hill and down to Playa Guiones. You will come into Playa Guiones and see businesses like Coconut Harry’s Surf Shop and National Car Rental. (The employees at National are very friendly and know us well so if you are lost or need to call us you can certainly ask them for help.) You are still a bit south of Nosara at this point. After a few more kilometers, you'll see signs for Playa Pelada, continue straight ahead towards the village of Nosara. On the right hand side you will see a large gas station, take your next left, a ½ mile after the gas station. You will see a sign for Ostional or Playa Ostional and also a sign for Costa Rica Yoga Spa. Continue on this road. You will cross a bridge and take a right immediately after the bridge. You will see a sign for Costa Rica Yoga Spa here as well. Follow this road until you come to another “T”, take a left there. About 400 meters down this road is our entrance on the right. You will see our sign and a black iron gate and a wall with Mayan type design on it. Go up the drive on your left you will see our reception office please stop there to check in. If it is after hours and no one is there continue up the drive all the way to the top and follow the sign for drop off. We look forward to your arrival! If you need to reach us enroute, our office number is 2682-0012. Safe travels!! |
